Monday? It Must Be Madame Brussels

January 27, 2010

For the past year I have had people telling me that I needed, no, needed, to get my arse down to Madame Brussels , “a rather fancy Terrace and Public House,” in the City.

With a free Monday up our sleeves, my lunching partners and I sashayed our sassy selves down Bourke St and up the grime stained staircase only to emerge into a vision in pink and astro-turf green!

The weather was beyond perfect, the view was delightful, the staff were attentive and well dressed (most, there was one pair of exceptionally tight and short shorts)

Not  pictured: The chocolate fondue with marshmallows and fresh strawberries, Tim’s sesame coated sausage rolls, about 5 other different punches, dips again, the bottle of Clover Hill sparkling, and finally the CUPCAKES! Lemon with hot pink icing! If I’d paused for one second before inhaling those I may have remembered to snap a photo. Alas.

I didn’t take any of the inside, but a quick google image search produces many many results. The whole aesthetic was right up my alley! It’s all faux garden path, tiny tennis shorts, garden party, astro-turf, paddling pool, parasols and kitsch… BLISS

It is really lovely up there on the roof top! One day before winter, on a week day if possible, you have to go. No one is there, the sun shines, they offer you parasols. Delightful!

How great is the photo of the drinks at the beginning of the piece. Lovely review.
